When Harry Met Sally (1989)
IMDB Rating 7.6/10 96 min - Rated 15 Romance | Drama
Stars: Billy Chrystal, Meg Ryan, Carrie Fisher Director: Rob Reiner
Harry and Sally meet when sharing a car trip from graduation at Chicago University to post-college life in New York City. This quickly turns into eighteen hours of bickering and they conclude they have nothing in common. One important discussion point was Van women and men be friends without sex getting in the way?"No', said Harry. 'Yes' said Sally. Five years pass before their paths cross again and arguing resumes. Sally now has a businessman boyfriend and Harry is engaged to be married. Another five years pass; Sally's boyfriend has gone, and Harry's wife has left him for another man. This time they sleep together. Can two friends sleep together and still love each other in the morning? When Harry Met Sally is a family affair. Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron cheerfully admit that there's a lot of Rob in Harry and a good deal of Nora in Sally. Ephron reveals that the 'I'll have what she's having' line, after Ryan's immortalized fake-anorgasm-in-a-restaurant moment, was suggested by Billy Crystal and performed by Rob Reiner's mother. Reiner inter-slots the various stages of Harry and Sally with short interviews in which elderly couples talk about how, long ago, they met (real stories, although performed by actors), thus lending much more gravitas to the issues of coupledom. The film takes a look at a relationship that takes a long while to grow, with all the perils and pleasure of first being friends.
